Rice Paper plant Tetrapanax papyrifera Rex

Brobdingnagian proportions. Like something out of Gulliver's travels, these leaves reach an amazing 1.2m (4 feet) across in the Rheidol Valley. Some people come just to see this plant and not the butterflies! It is only just hardy here and loses its leaves each winter. Fittingly for our wildlife garden, the flowers of the Rice Paper plant are apparently attractive to butterflies in New Zealand. Our plant is yet to flower to test it here in the UK.
