Running a butterfly house is expensive, the heating costs along with staff time breeding the butterflies can be very costly! It costs roughly £180k a year for us to successfully run our butterfly house, if we make a profit this funnels back into our education and research.
Rearing caterpillars is tedious work, from getting spiderlings off their food plants so they don't get eaten, to growing tropical plants during the winter.
