The BirdwinG - Troidini Project

The Manager, Neil Gale, has made three trips out to The Spice Islands (Maluku) in Indonesia looking for Birdwings and other butterflies. Wallace’s Golden Birdwing Ornithoptera croesus is only found on a few of these remote islands and there is little information on its contemporary status. The Trust produced a short film on this species filming for the first time the juvenile stages as well the caterpillar food plant (please see opposite).

This is part of a wider project on breeding smaller members of the Troidini tribe, the main results of which we have documented.
